Our rangatahi are seeking mental health support from a care system that is struggling to keep up with its exponentially growing demand. Despite the strain this places on our workforce, we cannot sacrifice quality for quantity. My passion lies in strengthening the relationship between research and frontline practice. Technological growth is happening at an unprecedented rate, and our approach to mental health support cannot afford to fall behind. I’m fascinated by how advancements in neuroscience can inform clinical psychology, leading to stronger assessments and treatments of mental illnesses — particularly for our youth.
As we adapt to these changes, we must remember the values that have driven us to support those in need. Our rangatahi are more than diagnoses and jargon — they look to us for leadership through life’s greatest challenges. We must provide research-informed interventions while upholding the integrity and mana of our rangatahi if we are to ensure effective care for future generations.
