Lina Nouri | Kelliher Economics Foundation

Master of Arts (Economics)

We are all economists. We weigh up costs and benefits when we decide what to eat for breakfast, who to spend our evening with, or whether we buy a house in Auckland or Nelson. The discipline of economics formalises what we do instinctively.

In today's world, understanding formal economic concepts is necessary for making informed life decisions, engaging in public policy discussions, and acting on the challenges we face as a society. Yet systemic barriers and limited resources prevent many from developing this literacy.

I see an opportunity for trained economists to empower the public with economic knowledge through leadership. Equitable economic literacy directly improves individual wellbeing by enabling better financial decisions. This shared literacy also allows New Zealanders from all backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to policy conversations that shape our collective future. My goal is to be a leader who creates equitable access to key economic information in Aotearoa by leveraging my ambition, drive, and passion for the field.
