She founded Partners Life in 2010, guiding it to become a leading player in the market. Prior to that, she played key roles in establishing Sovereign (now AIA) and Club Life (now Chubb), making her the only woman to have founded and built the three largest competitors in the New Zealand life insurance market.

Ballantyne's most notable achievement was orchestrating the sale of Partners Life to Dai-ichi Life for over $1 billion, marking her as the first female founder in New Zealand to achieve this milestone. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including induction into the Company of Women Female Entrepreneur Hall of Fame and the ANZIIF Lifetime Achievement Award.
