I relish in moments of imagination both re-envisioning and believing that my ancestors
skilfully navigated vast oceans towards new and familiar landscapes to trade foods, art, tools and
knowledge without the need for a visa or a passport.

Many Pacific migrants, regardless of their visa status, journey to New Zealand in the hopes of
providing a stable foundation for their families to settle and flourish. However, New Zealand
immigration systems are often riddled with obstacles that make it difficult for many of these
families to navigate successfully. It is my intention to help create equitable immigration policies
and schemes that value Pacific migrants and their aspirations for their future generations. I truly
believe that Pacific migrant workers are not only intelligent and resourceful but they also share
ancestral connections with tangata whenua Māori that could enrich our society in so many ways.

Power to the people.
