As a wahine Māori in Aotearoa, I am unable to ignore the negative statistics surrounding the health status of Māori. They are not just numbers to me. Each of these numbers represent members of my whānau, real life people that I know, and one day they could be representing me. This sad reality is one which has motivated me to pursue my studies in Health Sciences and the Law.

With my studies, I hope to be in a position to advocate for the rights of Māori, as well as for all Indigenous peoples who have endured the traumatising process of colonisation. I am interested in how the law
