Thoughtful engagement with how we create, manage, and consider our built environment in Aotearoa and the Pacific is more important today than at any other time in our history. At the regional, organisational, and individual scales there are challenges arising for architecture as a political and spatial discipline. I am concerned about the Eurocentric lens through which we look at architecture in Aotearoa New Zealand and how this a) works to perpetuate the cultural undervaluing of Pacific perspectives on art, architecture, and technology and b) fails to prepare future practitioners of the built environment to deal with the issues most pressing in our region.

I hope that through a career of research, teaching, and architectural practice I can make a meaningful impact and help to create space for an inclusive, considerate, and equitable future.
